Dream it Large St Austell! St Austell becomes the location of a new film about teenage pregnancy this autumn. Young people from ‘The House’ youth facility at Polkyth Leisure Centre have been working with Blind Ditch to research, script and storyboard a film on the issue, with a two-day shoot taking place on 26th and 27th October. On the run up to the shoot, the young people produced a storyboard of the film from which 10 images were selected and reproduced on a large scale to be erected across town. The story boards are a great advertisement of the project to the local community, not only to show off the young people’s work but also to gather interest from any members of the public who want to get involved either as cast members, extras or crew! ![]() ![]() Dream it Large St Austell is being facilitated by Blind Ditch for young people at The House. The project is funded by Groundwork, the Terrence Higgins Trust via the National Lottery Big Lottery fund. Crossed Lines wins award The short drama Crossed Lines made by young people from VANLAND Village Screen won the audience award for Best Young Person’s film at the Exeter Phoenix Two Short Nights Festival. After being shown at the hugely successful week of Village Screen events held throughout Teignbridge at the end of November, Crossed Lines was chosen to be screened as part of the Young People’s element of the festival where the audience voted for their favourite film. Felek Werpachowski the young director of Crossed Lines said: "It was quite a surprise to win the award and it shows all the hard work that everyone put into it paid off. I’m glad that it was voted by the audience which makes it more meaningful – that we’ve made something that people want to watch.” Jonas Hawkins Manager of the Exeter Phoenix Media Centre said: “It was the first time that we’ve held a young peoples event as part of the Two Short Nights Festival and the high standard of films submitted shows the amount of budding talent there is in the region. The young people’s films were very diverse in content and style. Dealing with the themes of teenage pregnancy and difficulties in communication between the generations can result in films that are quite clichéd but Crossed Lines was a fresh approach and extremely watchable.” Felek Werpachowski and Jonas Hawkins ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 25 November 2007
