Project Aims

VANLAND is a project which aims to improve the quality of life for young people in rural Teignbridge by:

- investigating the choices facing young people of the Teignbridge District (specifically the issues of migration to urban centres out of the rural area), and offering a way to creatively identify and express their needs and priorities for the future;

- offering skills and support to young people in rural Teignbridge in a format which is innovative, accessible and relevant;

- enabling young people to express themselves creatively with clarity and resonance through workshops with performance, writing and media professionals who live and work in the region;

- widening networks of young people in the district and bringing together different community groups in the sharing of the young people's work and experiences;

- working in partnership with existing youth and art organisations to develop skills and resources which can be sustained beyond the three year life of the project;

- promoting the the particular character and diversity of the area in a form which is innovative, accessible and informative both to residents and tourists;

- continually promoting equal opportunities and good practice;

- creating an accessible cultural event for young people in rural Teignbridge that will have a lasting affect on their lives;

- extending the current facilities in digital media for young people in the region - increasing provision and access to digital technology and the development of creative and transferable skills;

- being mobile - both in the making and exhibiting stages - and therefore accessible to a wide range of rural teignbridge participants and audience members;

- being publicly available in the Teignbridge district over the three years;

- creating, through the use of digital media, a lasting product which can be kept by the young people, archived and repurposed into websites, CD Roms, gallery and/or film events;

- providing a structure which builds each year on: the number and range of participants, the locations (for workshops and touring) and the development of participants' ideas.
